Samsung launches new Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition)

How do large companies really know what consumers want? Well, among the most commonly used tools, we find algorithms that assess what the individual user or entire audiences will like based on past behaviors (e.g. Netflix) or focus groups, where selected consumers are asked in-depth questions about new products and their responses and emotional responses are observed, measured and weighed in the smallest detail.

Or … you can also just ask them directly what they would like, and that’s exactly what Samsung did when the Korean electronics giant developed the so-called Fan Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S20.

It has happened on various social media and the result has been a smartphone with the most popular features from the Galaxy S20 series but at a more affordable price.

Galaxy S20 FE is part of the S20 family and a true premium smartphone, but at a price that makes it accessible to more people. We have listened to our Galaxy users and included the most appreciated features in the S series as “Triple camera, 5G, 120 Hz screen and a large battery that you can count on all day. In addition, it comes in six different exclusive colors, so everyone can find a model that suits them,” says Claus Holm, Director IM & Country Manager Denmark.

Top shelf configuration

The screen’s refresh rate is thus the same dynamic 120 Hz as is already known from the more expensive models in the Galaxy Note 20 series, while the size is a reasonable 6.5 “.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE comes in two versions with resp. LTE and 5G. The more expensive 5G version comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 processor, while the pure LTE version comes with Samsung’s own Exynos 990 processor. The battery capacity is as much as 4500 mAh, and the new smartphone supports both 25W fast charging (charger can be purchased separately) as well as 15W wireless charging.

In other words, the very basic configuration is quite on par with Samsung’s somewhat more expensive “genuine” S20 models, though with an even larger battery, while the screen resolution (2400 x 1080) is a bit lower.

The camera is also not quite on par with the almost absurd specifications for e.g. Galaxy S20 Ultra, but smaller can do it too. Thus, the mobile is equipped with three lenses (12 MP ultra-wide angle, 12 MP primary and 8 MP telephoto) as well as optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom as well as 30x hybrid zoom.

The new camera of course supports night mode as well as Samsung’s own invention “Single Take”, where all the camera’s cannons are fired at once.

Galaxy S20 FE: Price and availability

The mobile comes in versions with resp. 128 and 256 GB built-in storage that can be expanded by up to 1 TB using external microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE can be pre-ordered from 23 September and has a sales start on 2 October with a suggested price from 499 for the 4G version with 128 GB storage and from 599 for the 5G-ready version with 128 GB storage. The new mobile is available in six colors: Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White.
