When they presented the beautiful two-seater MC20, Maserati said two things that made us extra interested. The low sports car also comes in a battery-electric version, and it comes with a hefty sound system from Sonus Faber. This literally sounds like sweet music to our ears, and right now we’re a little extra excited because Maserati is planning the same for more car models.

One is the Gran Turismo Folgore, a low four-passenger coupe they’re launching in 2023. Here, Maserati can already tell we’re talking 1200 hp and three electric motors, and 0-100 mph shouldn’t take much more than three seconds.

Gran Turismo Folgore (folgore means ‘lightning’ in Italian), like the current fuel-engined models, will be available in several trim levels and will feature Sonus Faber sound.

So does the more family-friendly Grecale Folgore; a mid-size battery-powered SUV based on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, but stretched 10 cm between the axles. Which, according to Maserati, should provide class-leading rear seat space.

We’re also talking 105 kW of battery capacity, which should give around 500 km of range, 550 hp (to start with) and 800 Nm of torque on the front and rear axles. The battery architecture is at 400 volts, which should allow charging at up to 200 kW.

The Maserati Grecale will be available in several equipment variants, with the Trofeo being fairly fully loaded. Here you get 21 speakers from Sonus faber, with whom Maserati has collaborated on the infotainment systems in all upcoming models.

The driver can recline in the Maserati’s deep sport seat and see all the necessary info on a 12.3-inch screen in front of him, while the centre console is equipped with an 8.8-inch touch screen where you can control everything, including the system and heating. At the top of the dashboard is a circular screen, which is a digital clock with analogue display, as well as a timer in case you find yourself taking the car out for a track day.

There’s a choice of two Sonus faber systems. The 860-watt Premium Audio System is set up with 14 speakers in the cabin, while the High Premium Audio System comes with 21 speakers and a total of 1285 watts of power (!).

Controlled from the centre console screen, the system is built around a Class D Dual DSP amplifier with EQ and Sonus faber signature units with paper fibre diaphragms, silk-woven tweeters and easy-to-recognise sound.

The Grecale is already launched with a gas engine and can also be fitted with Sonus faber systems, while the battery-electric Folgore variant, like the Gran Turismo Folgore, will arrive in 2023. The all-electric MC20 will not arrive until 2025.
