Much has been written about Volkswagen’s upcoming electric SUV, and today the new ID.4 had its official world premiere. But those who had expected a magnificent and detailed review, had to settle for new official photos, plus some info about the two models VW ID.4 1st and ID.4 1st Max.

Both models come with rear-wheel drive and range close to 500 km (WLTP). The Max model has more equipment such as panoramic glass roofs, 21-inch wheels and more expensive interior details. ID.4 also gets some really nice LED lights both front and rear. But beyond that, there was not much new info to track down. For our part, we were extra interested in knowing which sound system the electric “people’s SUV” can be equipped with. The more self-driving and quiet the cars become, the more important the sound quality and entertainment on board! We can sign this after testing cars such as the Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC with various sound options.

No information about upgraded audio – yet

While several existing Volkswagen models can be delivered with an upgraded sound system from Dynaudio and Beats, respectively, VW has not commented on how the “premium option” in ID.4 will look or sound. Skoda Enyaq is rumored to be equipped with an upgraded system from Canton, but even here the access has not been confirmed yet. At the time of writing, it appears that the so-called 1ST editions of ID.4 are only delivered with a standard Volkswagen system of unknown quality and quantity. Those who want a Volkswagen electric SUV with extra expensive sound system on board will probably have to be patient. Who knows, maybe it’s just the four-wheel drive that gets the full package of subwoofer, surround and all?

Volkswagen opens for ordering ID.4 from 24 September, and will hopefully release more information in that connection.

The good guys at Autogefühl have already taken a thorough look at the new ID.4 inside and out:
