Sonus faber Omnia: Wireless tabletop speaker

You’ll find them everywhere. Small, big, flat, long. Wireless speakers come in all varieties, and the soundbars that can also be connected to the TV are also wireless. In other words, you don’t need anything more than a wireless soundbar to get sound in your home.

Unless you’re overly concerned about sound quality and don’t want a long grey plastic soundbar lying on your TV stand in the living room.

Approximately that’s what I think Livio Cucuzza was thinking when he designed the Sonus faber Omnia.

Which is an all-in-one, wireless speaker that can also function as a soundbar.

– For me, Omnia represents a journey into Sonus faber’s extensive history, just at twice the speed, says Sonus faber’s chief designer, Livio Cucuzza.

– In all projects, it’s my job to tell the company’s story – and with Omnia, the mission is the same. The process was just faster and more in-depth. In a new, more accessible category, Omnia will offer a taste of Sonus faber’s 40-year history to thousands of new people. Ambitious of course, but also satisfying.

The wireless Omnia has input for an analogue audio source, or a turntable with MM pickup, but also HDMI with audio return so you can use the TV remote to control the volume. It also has Bluetooth AptX HD, Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and it supports Roon.

Sonus faber says the speaker is capable of a sound pressure level of 108 decibels, which is loud for a table speaker, and the specified frequency range is 30 Hz to 25000 Hz.

Under the tweeter sits a 6.5-inch subwoofer with aluminum cone, two 3-inch midrange drivers with paper fibre cones, two 1.75-inch drivers with cellulose cones, and two 0.75-inch tweeters.

They are driven by a combined 490W of power, and use Sonus faber’s Crescendo technology for optimum signal processing to the two 1.75″ drivers on the sides.

The Omnia measures 13 x 65 x 2 cm, and the weight is estimated at 7.6 kg.

The loudspeaker will first be available in March in walnut, while the graphite grey version will arrive in summer 2022.

The price will be € 1,799 regardless of colour.

Very impressive. The speaker didn’t look that big, but the specs read like large speaker output.
