Philips Fidelio L3: noise-canceling top model

The Dutch are serious when they want to remove the noise with the Philips Fidelio L3. First, they promise first-class noise reduction, with four built-in microphones.

– But it’s that simple, says CEO Kostas Vouzas. – It is difficult to maintain the sound quality while reducing the noise.

Philips claims not to change the sound of the music coming out; only the noise is removed.

To take care of the sound in the Fidelio L3, the choice has fallen on 40 mm large speaker elements, which Philips calls large but which is quite common in this class. The elements use a three-layer damping material to reduce distortion. We have also worked to ensure good passive noise reduction with cushions of leather-coated memory foam, so that you do not have to use the active noise reduction to suppress noise.

Furthermore, aptX HD audio codec provides better sound over Bluetooth, and via the cable we promise that the headphones support high-resolution sound. Which is marketing talk that they respond higher than 20 kHz.

Clear conversations and touch control

One of the built-in microphones is dedicated to removing background noise during calls, to ensure clear sound for the other party at the other end.

The headphones should be particularly user-friendly, with intuitive touch control with swiping and pressing on the outside of the earbuds. The undersigned’s experience is that this can be tricky at first, but once you get used to it, it is very user – friendly. The “Push to talk” feature stops the music when you start talking, and you can also easily call up the Google Assistant. No words about Siri, but headphones are often agnostic when it comes to whether the phone has Android or iOS operating system.

Battery life

Fidelio L3 provides 35 hours of playing time – 30 hours with ANC activated all the time. Fast charging provides six hours of use in just 15 minutes with the included USB C cable.
