Cambridge Audio delivers the sound for the DeLorean Alpha5

Cambridge Audio are known for their affordable and successful hi-fi components, but now they’re exploring new avenues – literally! The British manufacturer recently announced that it has partnered with American DeLorean Motor Company to supply the sound system for the upcoming DeLorean Alpha5 electric car.

The Alpha5 is the electric successor to the DeLorean DMC-12, the car that became iconic in the 80s and 90s through the Back to the Future film trilogy starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The electric version may not be able to jump back in time, but it kicks off well: the Alpha5 pulls on all four wheels, does 0-100 in around 3 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

The follow-up car also retains the famous gullwing doors, and the stepped sunshade in the rear window, while being far more streamlined than the original. The battery pack has a capacity of over 100 kWh, and the range should be around 500 km (WLTP).

So how will the sound system be designed, and how many speakers will it have? Well, Cambridge Audio and DeLorean haven’t released detailed specs on the sound system yet, but we’ll probably know more on August 18 where Alpha5 will be officialy launched during Monterey Car Week in California.
